EYES OF THE HEART

Eyes of the Heart

I was led today, during my morning time with God, to Ephesians 1. This particular verse practically leapt off the page and I was inspired to dig deeper:

“I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you spiritual wisdom and revelation in your growing knowledge of him, – since the eyes of your heart have been enlightened – so that you may know what is the hope of his calling, what is the wealth of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the incomparable greatness of his power toward us who believe, as displayed in the exercise of his immense strength.” ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭1:17-19‬ ‭NET‬‬ https://www.bible.com/107/eph.1.17-19.net

This is Paul saying that his prayer for the Ephesians is for them to receive spiritual wisdom and revelation in their growing knowledge of Jesus. SINCE the “eyes of their heart” had been enlightened (made spiritual aware).

I paused at “eyes of the heart” and felt a nudge from The Holy Spirit to research and reflect on this analogy for a bit.

I found this quote:
“Sometimes the heart sees what is invisible to the eye.” H. Jackson Brown Jr.

I believe that Experiencing God can only been done with the “eyes of our heart”. For us to experience God, He must enlighten our spiritual eyes to the work He is doing all around us. I think He does that through our emotional responses to our circumstances and experiences. Have you ever gotten teary eyed during a worship song and wondered “why in the world did that get me so emotional?” Or maybe you heard a story relaying an injustice that gets your heart pumping and makes you want to do something, anything, to join the fight against the perpetrators. Maybe, just maybe, that is God opening the eyes of your heart to His will. Maybe the heightened emotions we feel are God’s way of nudging us to investigate those emotions further so we can partner with Him in His plans. What if the compassion we are filled with (if even for a second) for that lost co-worker, is meant to overflow so that they can see the love of God through you and return to arms of the Father. When God impacts our heart it tends to manifest in our emotions. Those emotions are supposed to push you closer to your purpose, but I fear we spend to much time focusing on how our emotions negatively effect US, instead of focusing on how they could positively effect others.

I am still reflecting on this revelation, but for now, I am praying that we come to see with the eyes of our heart so we can experience God in a whole new realm.
